Meghan McCain Says U.S. Is 'Laughing Stock' Over Taliban's Mock Iwo Jima Photo

Meghan McCain is blasting President Joe Biden following the U.S. military exit from Afghanistan.

In an Instagram post, the conservative pundit and daughter of the late Sen. John McCain said she has “been physically ill” and filled with “pure rage and anger” since the withdrawal of U.S. troops.

While Biden has said ending the war was the necessary choice after 20 years of fruitless fighting — and billions in cost and tens of thousands of dead — McCain, a family friend, argued the way it unfolded was “one of the greatest foreign policy catastrophes of my lifetime.”

“I am furious our President was so incompetent not to see what every expert on the planet could have seen coming,” she wrote. “I am furious for my friends and family who have been fighting in these wars since I was 16 (many who have lost limbs, had their life terrorized by PTSD from their experiences in war and deployments, or worse). I am furious seeing our allies and innocent Afghan citizens who trusted us are being left to be slaughtered or so desperate to escape the pure evil the Taliban will bring in that they are falling out of f—— planes. This is not who America is, this is not the values this country was founded in.”

In a post to her more than 790,660 Twitter followers on Saturday, McCain wrote: “We’re the laughing stock of the world.”

She included her comment alongside a tweet by U.S. political commentator Clay Travis which showed Taliban fighters raising their flag in a similar way to when American forces declared victory in the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1945.

In his tweet, Travis said: “The Taliban dressed up in American military gear we left behind when we fled the country and staged their own mock Iwo Jima photo.”
