Author and podcast host Coleman Hughes was accused by co-host Sunny Hostin on “The View” on Wednesday of being “used as a pawn by the right” about his new book and defense of “colorblindness” in the United States.

Coleman, the author of “The End of Race Politics: Arguments for a Colorblind America,” spoke with the co-hosts of “The View” about his book, which makes the case that people should treat others without regard to race.

“Your argument for colorblindness, I think it’s something that the right has co-opted, and so many in the Black community, if I’m being honest with you, because I want to be, believed that you are being used as a pawn by the right and that you are charlatan of sorts,” Sunny said.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin interrupted and said Hughes was not a Republican.

The body language from all the co-hosts at the table was visibly uncomfortable with Sunny’s statements.

Coleman shot back:

“I don’t think I’ve been co-opted by anyone. I’ve only voted twice — both for Democrats. I’m an independent,” The author said. “I would vote for a Republican — probably a non-Trump Republican if they were compelling. I don’t think there’s any evidence I’ve been co-opted by anyone and I think that’s an at-homonym tactic people use to not address the important conversations we’re having here.”

“There’s no evidence that I’ve been co-opted by anyone,” he said. “I have an Independent podcast. I work for CNN as an analyst. I write for the free press. I’m Independent in all of these endeavors and nobody is paying me to say what I’m saying. I’m saying it because I feel it.”

Even towards the end of the conversation, Hostin can’t help herself she goes after Hughes again.
