Trump Impeachment Process Set To Begin As Democrat Al Green Files Articles
Two Democratic congressmen are drawing up articles of impeachment for President Trump, including a Texas lawmaker who thinks President Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey is grounds for impeachment.
Texas Democratic Congressman Al Green believes it is “indisputable fact” that Trump obstructed justice in his firing of Comey. The Texas lawmaker believes the president fired Comey in an effort to stop “this Russia thing” – referring to the FBI’s probe of possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow during the 2016 election.
“The president will not be indicted while in office,” Green told reporters on Capitol Hill Wednesday. “The impeachment process will bring him to justice. It’s the remedy for obstruction of justice.”
“The president intended to do what he did, firing Comey to obstruct justice,” Green added.
Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., said Wednesday he supports Green’s efforts to draft articles of impeachment but that he is also drafting his own version of impeachment articles. Sherman hinted he may pair his articles with Green’s down the road.
“This is going to be a long process,” he said.
