Jon Stewart at the end of his program on the February 26 episode of ‘Daily Show’ revealed the passing of his dog, Dipper,  Stewart became very emotional.

The host told the tale of how he came to acquire the dog. He remembered that his kids wanted to gather money for Animal Haven, a no-kill animal sanctuary in New York City about twelve or thirteen years ago. So they prepared a bake sale at the shelter and cooked cupcakes.

“They put the dog in my lap and we left that day feeling really good that we’d helped this great organization — and we also left with this 1-ish-year-old brindle pitbull,” Stewart continued. “We called him Dipper. In a world of good boys, he was the best.”

Stewart said that his whole family was with him when Dipper passed away. The host remarked, “He was ready.” “He was tired. But I wasn’t.”

“And the family, we were all together,” he continued. “Thank goodness we were all with him.”

He continued by explaining that the dog had been a member of the “OG Daily Show dog crew” and recalled how Dipper would always “wait” patiently for him to finish taping when he came to the show.

“And he met actors and authors and presidents and kings. And he did what the Taliban could not do, which is put a scare on Malala Yousafzai,” he joked and showed the clip of Malala scared and going the opposite way from Dipper.
