The late great country singer’s preferred container was red solo cups, therefore this one, in particular, will have a lot of drinks poured into them at the upcoming Saturday basketball game in Oklahoma.

This past week, at the age of 62, Toby Keith lost his fight with stomach cancer. His impact on the country music scene has been evident from the numerous tributes shared since.

Tuesday night during the Sooners men’s basketball game versus BYU, Oklahoma set up a guitar. The guitar was his signature drinking container, which was the subject of one of his many hit songs. It was a red OU solo cup.

In a statement earlier on Tuesday, Oklahoma Athletics said:

“The OU Athletics family is incredibly saddened by the passing of our dear friend Toby Keith.” Living in a world without Toby is an incredibly depressing reality. Our hearts are lighter without him now since he filled every space he entered with vitality and happiness.”

“An American icon and a stalwart Sooner. A superstar talent and a fierce friend of our program. We thank him for the unwavering support he always gave, his generosity as a human being and the countless smiles and memories he created here in Oklahoma and around the world.”

Toby Keith had numerous popular hit songs, his latest song ‘Don’t Let The Old Man In’ is a lovely song, which Keith sings on, and is even more meaningful in light of his passing.

The song “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue (The Angry American),” which Keith wrote in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, is also well-known.

The singer-songwriter said, “And you get to talk about your old man,” as a heartfelt extra to the song, ‘Made In America’, he co-wrote with Bobby Pinson and Scott Reeves. “So it made sense to do that, and it’s been a crowd-favorite.”

Keith has always been an avid fan of Oklahoma sports. He frequently attended football games and gave his support to the other teams.

Red solo cups are being left in front yards by admirers of Toby Keith as a farewell to the singer, utilizing one of his most well-known songs.

“When you see a red solo cup, everyone thinks of Toby Keith,” a fan remarked.

It just seems fitting that Oklahoma will honor the late singer with ‘red solo cups’ at the game on Saturday.

Keith is survived by his wife, Tricia, and their three children Krystal, Shelley, and Stelen.

Toby was 62 at the time of his passing.
