President Trump and Melania Trump visits Scalise in the hospital GOP congressional shooting
Trump visited Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., who is being treated for a gunshot wound at a Northwest Washington hospital on Wednesday night.
The unannounced visit to MedStar Washington Hospital Center came hours after Scalise emerged from surgery after he was injured during a shooting at a Congressional Baseball Game practice in Alexandria, Virginia. Trump aides brought two large bouquets of large white flowers.
After his visit, Trump tweeted calling for prayers for the congressman.
“Just left hospital. Rep. Steve Scalise, one of the truly great people, is in very tough shape – but he is a real fighter. Pray for Steve!” Trump wrote.

Scalise is in critical condition, after undergoing surgery for a gunshot to the hip. According to MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Scalise suffered a single rifle wound to his left hip. The gunshot traveled across his pelvis, fracturing bones, injuring internal organs and causing severe bleeding, the hospital said. He will need additional surgeries, the hospital said.
