Sandra Bullock’s partner Bryan Randall battled ALS before his death, and now details about the nature of the couple’s relationship are surfacing.

According to DailyMail, the couple quietly “exchanged vows” in a private ceremony on a 14-day trip to Arpaud Busson’s Three Bees Villa on Harbor Island in the Bahamas in December 2017 to celebrate Bryan’s birthday, December 31. The ceremony was not legally binding.

It came just three years before he was diagnosed with ALS – the 57-year-old succumbed to the disease after his private battle.

“It is with great sadness that we share that on Aug. 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS,” they said. “Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request.”

The family also thanked all the medical professionals: “We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours,” they said, before requesting privacy.

“Exclusive video obtained by DailyMail.com shows the couple dancing the night away following the ceremony which was not legally binding and involved no officiant but instead saw Bullock, 59, declare herself to the man she called, ‘the love of my life’ and him profess his love in return.”

“It was just three years before and a world away from when Randall would receive his devastating diagnosis with ALS, the illness to which he succumbed at the weekend.”

A video clip obtained by the outlet shows the duo sharing an embrace while slow dancing to “Shelter” by Ray LaMontagne.

ALS, formally known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, according to the ALS Association. It causes the nervous system to break down, impacting physical function.

Bullock and Randall first met in 2015, when the star hired him to photograph her son’s birthday party. She later expressed her feelings on an episode of Red Table Talk. “I found the love of my life,”
