North Korea’s missile launch is the latest in an escalating series of tests.

The newest missile was launched from the country’s east coast, flying about 280 miles before landing in the sea off the coast of Japan.

The missile appears to be a short-range ballistic scud missile that Japan said could have easily hit an airplane or a ship in the area. Increasing pressure from the U.S. and China has so far been ineffective in convincing North Korea to slow down its missile tests. This is the ninth missile test the North has conducted this year — with three in just the past three weeks.

President Trump responded to North Korea’s overnight ballistic missile launch with a tweet suggesting China, an ally of North Korea, was “shown great disrespect” by the act.
