The Emmy Awards on Monday honored Matthew Perry, one of the stars of NBC’s hit sitcom ‘Friends’, with a moving musical tribute.
Pop sensation Charlie Puth and husband-and-wife country team The War and Treaty performed an acoustic version of the sitcom’s iconic theme song, “I’ll Be There for You,” during Monday’s broadcast.

During the 1990s, Perry became well-known for his portrayal of Chandler Bing on the iconic NBC comedy. He was cast in the part at the age of 24, and rapidly won over fans. He portrayed the part for ten seasons, from 1994 to 2004.

According to an autopsy report released in December by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office, Perry passed away due to the “acute effects” of ketamine, a medication commonly used to treat depression. Matthew was age 54.
According to the postmortem report, Perry had been receiving ketamine infusion therapy every other day for a while but had recently cut back; a week and a half before his death, was the last known infusion. Perry’s death was also caused by cardiac artery disease, drowning, and the side effects of the opioid use disorder treatment drug buprenorphine.
