SUV driven by Tiger Woods crashed and rolled over Tuesday in Los Angeles, leaving the golf superstar with multiple leg injuries, authorities and his agent said.

His agent Mark Steinberg said in a statement, “Tiger Woods was in a single-car accident this morning in California where he suffered multiple leg injuries.”

“He is currently in surgery and we thank you for your privacy and support,” Steinberg said.


His injuries are non-life-threatening, according to Lt. Michael White of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Woods, who was the only person in the SUV, was “extricated from the wreck with the ‘jaws of life’ by Los Angeles County firefighters and paramedics.

*UPDATE* Tiger Woods is “awake, responsive, and recovering in his hospital room,” after having a rod put into his leg.

Woods “suffered significant orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity” that were treated in emergency surgery, Anish Mahajan, chief medical officer, and interim CEO at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center said in the statement.

The rod was inserted into his tibia to stabilize fractures, and screws and pins were used to stabilize injuries to the foot and ankle, according to the statement.
