Salisbury Steak, a classic meal with a mouthwatering hamburger beef patty in a rich brown gravy. Serve it over mashed potatoes, rice, or cauliflower. This pairs well with just about any side.
It’s so easy and satisfying. Salisbury Steak is the perfect comfort food.
Ingredients
1 pound ground beef (I prefer 90/10)
1/2 cup bread crumbs, panko, crackers, etc (whatever you like will work)
2 Tablespoons ketchup
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon mustard powder
1 egg
salt and pepper
garlic
1 teaspoon oil
2 Tablespoons butter
1/2 white onion sliced
1 can sliced mushrooms or fresh mushrooms (I chop the mushrooms into small bite size)
For the gravy: Add the mushrooms I use any brand packet of brown gravy or brown gravy in a jar. If you are using the packet of brown gravy follow the directions.
Instructions
For the Steaks:
Combine the ingredients for the steaks in a bowl and mix completely. Shape the meat into oval size patties, about 3/4″ thick.
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add in 1 tbsp oil in pan (I use olive oil). Sear the meat patties on each side for about until done, and cook until a golden brown crust is formed on each side. Remove from pan and set aside.
In the same skillet, add the onions and cook until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in mushrooms and cook until lightly browned, another 3 to 4 minutes.
Melt the 2 tbsp of butter into the onions and mushrooms then stir in the gravy mixture. Cook until the mixture is thick, about 1 to 2 minutes.
Submerge the hamburger steaks into the gravy. Cover and cook for about 10 to 15 minutes, until the internal temperature of the steak patties reaches 160 to 165 degrees F.
Serve it over mashed potatoes, rice, or cauliflower. This pairs well with just about any side. Enjoy!
