(According to this) Trump has rallied to Rocky’s cause over the past week at the urging of first lady Melania Trump and Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, who have worked with the White House on criminal justice issues. On Saturday, the president tweeted that he had called Löfven and “offered to personally vouch for his bail, or an alternative,” and even the State Department has intervened to ensure that Rocky is being treated fairly.
But Löfven said in a statement through his press secretary that “in Sweden, everyone is equal before the law” and that while he was open to engaging Trump, he “made certain to emphasize the complete independence of the Swedish judicial system, prosecutors and courts.”

President Donald Trump said on Thursday he was “very disappointed” that Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven did not free jailed U.S. rapper A$AP Rocky, who will be tried in Sweden for assault over his alleged involvement in a street brawl.
“Very disappointed in Prime Minister Stefan Löfven for being unable to act,” Trump said on Twitter.
“I watched the tapes of A$AP Rocky, and he was being followed and harassed by troublemakers,” Trump said. “Give A$AP Rocky his FREEDOM.”
Very disappointed in Prime Minister Stefan Löfven for being unable to act. Sweden has let our African American Community down in the United States. I watched the tapes of A$AP Rocky, and he was being followed and harassed by troublemakers. Treat Americans fairly! #FreeRocky

Give A$AP Rocky his FREEDOM. We do so much for Sweden but it doesn’t seem to work the other way around. Sweden should focus on its real crime problem! #FreeRocky

The rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, was charged with assault on Thursday over a street fight, in a case that has drawn international attention. Rocky says that two men began following him and his entourage while he was in Stockholm for a music festival on the night of June 30, eventually leading to a fight. Footage obtained by TMZ shows the rapper throwing one of the men across the street, but he has released video showing his bodyguard telling the men to quit following them.
Swedish prosecutors said on Thursday that Rocky’s actions still constituted a crime “despite claims of self-defense and provocation,” according to The Associated Press. The AP reports that Rocky and two other members of his entourage who were also arrested and charged would remain in custody until their trials.
