In light of his untimely passing, Toby Keith — who has co-hosted the CMT Music Awards for years — will receive the recognition he deserves from the program. A star-studded tribute to Keith is scheduled for Sunday night’s three-hour CBS broadcast.



One of the hottest names in country music, Lainey Wilson, will play at the tribute, as will Brooks & Dunn, who are also Okies.

Over his career, Keith got a staggering 30 nominations for CMT Awards, making him a fan favorite for a long time. The “American Soldier,” singer made thirteen appearances at the awards ceremony.

The network will also run a special honoring the “Courtesy of The Red, White and Blue” performer after the 23rd annual CMT Awards. On Thursday, April 11 at 10 p.m. ET, a program.

Keith was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2021 and passed away in February at the age of 62. His family announced his passing on social media at the time.

“Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on Feb. 5 surrounded by his family. He fought his fight with grace and courage,” the statement read. “Please respect the privacy of his family at this time.”



Keith was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in March, the greatest accolade in the country music industry.

The 2024 CMT Music Awards will be hosted by Kelsea Ballerini and televised live on April 7 at 8 PM CT from the Moody Center in Austin, Texas.
